Reliance High-Tech go the extra mile for chosen charity

April 24, 2024

At Reliance High-Tech the same dedication and commitment that drives our service also fuels our Corporate Social Responsibility. Last month saw the team at Reliance take part in our first fundraising event since we started to support our chosen charity SSAFA.

SSAFA, The Armed Forces Charity helps both serving and former armed forces personnel and their families in a variety of ways. Whether that is through supporting those injured physically or mentally, helping the transition from military to civilian life, providing new skills and mentoring or simply being there at a time of need.

The Big Brew Up is more than just your average fundraising event, it is an annual, nationwide event where people across the country get together over a cup of tea and a cake to chat and raise funds for the great work SSAFA does all year round. We are delighted to share the total amount raised across our 3 offices was £327.86 – Pontefract raised £140.08, Leicester raised £43.02 and Winnersh £144.76.

The event included some great contributions from staff members, special mention goes to Sonia Skinner whose light fruit cupcakes which were one of the favourites of the day and Julie Stretton who went that bit extra and had the SSAFA logo and The Big Brew Up printed out on rice paper.

Jackie Jefferies commented, “It was wonderful to see how many of our colleagues at all levels and from all areas were keen to take part, either by donating cakes or buying and sampling the delicious treats others had brought in”

Lucky raffle winners in Pontefract walked off with a range of prizes including hampers and experience vouchers which was organised by Kimberley Roberts who approached various businesses to donate prizes, increasing the money raised. The competition was fierce, but Brian Bentley walked away as a well-deserved winner of their Bake Off with a mouth-watering chocolate cake with salted caramel. In Leicester, Louise Williamson and Sadie Haydon visited other organisations at the business park to sell them to other businesses and promote the SSAFA message even further.

The events were a huge success that were well supported across all the business. The day not only helped strengthen team bonds, but it was a great to support our forces and their families in times of need. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that contributed to the event and for all their efforts.

This is just the start of what we have planned, across the year we will be cooking up other ideas and at the end of the year Reliance will donate to match however much is raised for SSAFA from employee volunteering nationwide. Find out more about why we chose SSAFA here.
