Back to school

May 4, 2024 by Alistair Enser

Over the next month Reliance High-Tech will be exhibiting at two events for security professionals in the education sector; the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO) between 8 and 10 April, and the School and Academies Show on 1 May in London.

Taking place at the University of Liverpool this year, the AUCSO 2024 Conference has become firmly established as a must-attend event for senior security professionals working in universities, colleges and institutions of tertiary education across the globe.

Alongside organised networking opportunities, a full conference programme is scheduled, allowing expert speakers to provide knowledge, information and best practice relating to security management within the higher education sector. This will be complemented by an exhibitor’s fair, where Reliance High-Tech will join other technology and service providers to showcase the latest innovations the security industry has to offer.

We have an ever-growing number of clients in the education space, including some of the largest and most prestigious universities in the UK where we provide full turn-key solutions for CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Detection, and other systems – all supported by leading service and maintenance programmes. Held twice a year, the School and Academies Show, meanwhile, attracts 6,000 visitors and includes a seminar programme alongside the exhibition.

Schools and universities often have complex security and access management challenges due to their need to allow freedom of movement on what may be a large campus. It is estimated that a third of UK students become a victim of crime – mainly theft and burglary – with about 20 per cent of student robberies occurring in the first six weeks of the academic year, but with changing habits and technology we are also seeing increasing demand for things such as environmental monitoring like CO2 sensors, and room occupancy, to help improve health and safety and well-being.

An overwhelming 85% of teachers surveyed by NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union, also believe vaping is a growing problem on school premises, and increasingly we are seeing interest in the latest vape sensing technologies which we can integrate into your security system.

The perceived safety of a school or university is a significant factor for prospective students and their families when it comes to choosing where to study. Therefore, ensuring their security and well-being requires a ‘joined-up’ approach, and technology is increasingly able to help. At Reliance High-Tech we have a strong interest in cutting-edge technology and a proven ability to help customers navigate and gain incremental value through the fast-changing IT based security landscape. We are here to help demystify some of the latest trends and provide guidance on subjects including cloud, edge, internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) based technologies.

If you’re attending either of these shows, please do come and find us, to explore how we might help you.
